Remote Work, Korean Bosses, and Real Freedom: Meet Ha!

Thinking about applying for a remote job but feel... nervous? Maybe you're worried about working with international clients. Or perhaps you've heard stories about "scary" Korean bosses? We get it! That’s why we sat down to chat with Thanh Ha, a Shopee Marketer in the PICKDI community. She has a Master's degree from a top Korean university (Ewha Womans University!) and even worked in Korea before. Now, she’s back in Vietnam, working 100% remotely for a Korean client through PICKDI. We asked her all the questions you want to know!

Q: Hi Ha! You used to work in an office in Korea. Now you work 100% remote from Vietnam. What is that really like? Is it better? Ha - Hi! Yes, it’s so much more flexible! I’m not tied to one desk in an office all day. I can manage my own time. For example, I can work from a cool café, or I can even travel to another city and still get my work done. As long as I am responsible and finish my tasks, I have a lot of freedom. I really like this remote style.

Q: Okay, time for the big question. Many Vietnamese are worried that Korean bosses can be... strict or difficult. What is your experience? Ha - Haha, I’ve been very lucky! Even at my old companies in Korea, everyone was nice. And my new Korean colleagues at Monthly Health are also very, very nice! We communicate every day using KakaoTalk. If I don't know something, they are always happy to teach me and guide me. Everyone is very supportive.

Q: That’s amazing to hear! But do they just tell you what to do, or do they actually listen to your ideas? Ha - They really listen! This is one of my favorite parts. When I have a new idea, a proposal, or a suggestion for a new Shopee campaign, I share it with the team. They always listen, and we discuss it together to find the best way to develop the product. I feel like my voice is valued.

Q: When you first found PICKDI, were you worried it might be a scam? Many remote job sites can be risky. Ha - No, I trusted PICKDI from the beginning. I saw their posts on Threads and they looked very professional. I knew it was not a scam or a "ghost" company. I also saw the jobs were a perfect fit for my skills (marketing for Korean brands), so I applied with confidence.

Q: What if you have a problem? Does PICKDI help you after you get the job? Ha - Yes, 100%! The PICKDI team is so supportive. I have PICKDI managers who help me. They are very enthusiastic and reply quickly. If there is any important news or if I need help with anything, they are always there to support me. You are not alone!

Q: Last question. Do you feel like you are growing in this job? Is it a real career? Ha - Definitely. I’m not just doing the same thing every day. I’m learning new skills, especially how to manage e-commerce platforms like Shopee. This is a very important skill for my future career. I feel like I am improving myself and I want to keep growing with this company.
