From Marketing Grad to Video Editor: How Vy Found Her Dream Remote Career at PICKDI

"I applied for Customer Service, but my Manager said: 'You have talent in editing. Why not do that instead?' That changed everything." Meet Vy, a talented Video Editor at Pointnexion. We asked Vy about her journey from a Marketing student to a key Creative Partner for Korean clients.

Q: You studied Marketing at university. How did you become a Video Editor at PICKDI? Vy - It’s a funny story! (Laughs). Yes, I have a degree in Marketing Management, but I taught myself video editing in high school because I loved making fan videos for K-pop idols. When I first applied to PICKDI, I applied for a Customer Service role because I can read and write Korean. I thought that was my best skill. However, the hiring manager looked at my CV and noticed my editing background. He told me: "The demand for video content is exploding. You have the skills. Why don't you work as an Editor instead?" I was surprised that a company would care enough to find the right job for me, not just the job I applied for. That is how I started my career here.

Q: Many candidates fear that remote work is lonely or unorganized. How do you handle it? Vy - I actually love it. I had some remote experience before, so I know that discipline is key. My secret tip is "The Night Before." I don't start looking for materials in the morning. I download all the video footage, music, and assets the night before. When I wake up, everything is ready. This helps me work fast and keeps my stress low. Working remote at PICKDI gives me the freedom to organize my life, as long as I deliver quality results.

Q: Do Korean clients listen to your ideas, or do you just follow orders? Vy - They value my opinion a lot! I am not just a "cutter"; I am a partner. For example, my client wanted to expand their videos to global viewers. They were unsure about using English subtitles or voiceovers. I used my initiative to propose a solution: "Let's try AI Voiceovers." I didn't just ask; I made three different versions (A/B testing) to show them the difference. The client loved the proactive attitude. If you care about the product, the client will respect you, no matter where you are.

Q: What is your next goal at PICKDI? Vy: - When I started, I only did short-form videos (TikTok/Reels). Now, I want to challenge myself with long-form videos and TVC. The best part about PICKDI is the community. We have many talented members. I am currently learning 3D skills from colleagues in the 3D team. I want to become an "All-rounder" - someone who can do everything from 2D to 3D.
