From Intern to Innovator: How Aimee is Redefining Impact in a Remote Role

What does it take to not just succeed, but truly innovate in a remote role? How can a recent graduate make a tangible impact on a global team from day one? Meet Aimee, an Influencer Marketing Specialist at Pick-D, working with the popular K-beauty brand, Ohora. With a background from RMIT and previous experience at TikTok, Aimee joined us with a unique perspective. But it’s her proactive mindset and drive to improve everything she touches that truly sets her apart. For any candidate wondering how you can grow, lead, and make your mark in a remote setting, Aimee’s story is a must-read.

Q: Hi Aimee! Your background is really impressive. Could you share a bit about the experience you brought to Pick-D? Aimee - Hi! I graduated from RMIT, an international university, which gave me a strong advantage in English communication—something essential for any global remote job. Before Pick-D, I had two key experiences. First, I worked remotely for a few startups in Singapore, so I was already familiar with the remote work culture and the best ways to communicate effectively across time zones. Second, I interned at TikTok Shop Vietnam. This gave me an insider's view of the e-commerce world from the platform's side. Coming to Pick-D to work for a brand like Ohora allowed me to see the industry from a completely different angle. I believe having this well-rounded perspective is one of my biggest strengths.

Q: You're an Influencer Marketing Specialist for Ohora. What has that been like, and how did you earn a spot on major projects so quickly? Aimee - It's been fantastic. My main role involves managing influencer campaigns for the US market. A significant part of my job is working on high-stakes "Paid Projects," where we collaborate with macro- and mega-influencers with over a million followers. I was trusted with these larger projects after my two-month probation period. I think it comes down to proving you're reliable and dedicated. In any role, but especially a remote one, you have to demonstrate your value and build that trust with your manager. I’m really proud to have earned that trust so early on, as it allows me to work on some of our most impactful campaigns.

Q: You've experienced both a traditional 9-to-5 office and remote work. Why is remote your preferred way to work? Aimee - My time in an office environment showed me some of the inconveniences of a traditional setup. When I had the chance to work remotely with the Singaporean startups, I realized that this style of work just suits my personality better. So when I saw Pick-D’s remote job postings, I knew it was a perfect match for my goals and work style. I was also really eager to dive deeper into influencer marketing from the brand’s side, and this was the perfect opportunity.

Q: What's the biggest difference you've noticed working with a Korean team versus your past experiences? Aimee - There are definitely some small cultural and communication differences. For example, sometimes a message translated by AI from Korean to English can come across as a bit blunt, even when you know the person's intention is completely friendly. It’s a minor hurdle. However, the overall environment at my company is very comfortable and not overly strict. My team is mostly made up of people from Southeast Asia, so we have a great dynamic. You just learn to communicate with more clarity and not take the small linguistic quirks too seriously.

Q: We heard you built a new reporting system from scratch in your first month. Tell us about that! How do you find ways to grow and innovate remotely? Aimee - (Laughs) Yes! When I joined, I noticed some of the team's processes were very manual and traditional. For example, reporting was done by hand. I saw an opportunity to make things much more efficient. I felt I had to go above and beyond. I researched automation tools, coded a simple solution for sending mass emails, and in my first month, I completely rebuilt our team's reporting system using automated formulas in Excel. It saved everyone a huge amount of time. I think in a remote role, you have the space to be proactive. I proposed these changes to my manager, and she was incredibly receptive. That’s how you grow—by not just doing your job, but by constantly looking for ways to do it better. As a result, I feel like my negotiation and problem-solving skills have probably doubled or tripled.

Q: It’s one thing to work hard, but another to be recognized for it. How does your manager support your contributions? Aimee - This is one of the best parts of my job. After my probation period, my manager sent me a very touching message. She said she loved my proactive attitude and that I shouldn't be afraid to propose new ideas, even if it meant changing the way things were done. She told me, "Keep bringing these ideas, and I will always support you to make them happen." She also mentioned that she wasn’t like that with everyone, which made me feel incredibly valued. That kind of encouragement is a huge motivator and makes me want to contribute even more to the team.

Q: What’s next for you? What are your future career goals? Aimee - I will definitely continue to prioritize remote work. As for Pick-D, if the right opportunity comes up, I would absolutely consider staying—my experience has been wonderful. Looking ahead, my goal for the next year is to move into a more senior position, perhaps as a Team Leader. I want to take on more responsibility and contribute on a larger scale. I'll be evaluating my journey after my one-year mark to decide the final next step, but I’m excited about the future. Aimee's story shows that a remote job at Pick-D is more than just a position—it's a platform for impact. If you're a self-starter who loves to learn, grow, and challenge the status quo, we want you on our team.
