From University Student to Global Influencer Marketer: Crystal’s Professional Journey with PICKDI

Can you build a real career while still in university? For many, the answer involves unpaid internships and juggling hectic schedules. But for Crystal Nguyen, a final-year Digital Marketing student, the answer was a professional remote role that not only fit her life but also exceeded all her expectations. We sat down with Crystal to hear about her journey as a Global Influencer Marketer for our client, Whipped. She shares her insights on what makes a candidate stand out, how the job grew beyond her imagination, and why a professional remote role is the perfect start for an ambitious student.

Q: Hi Crystal! Thanks for sharing your story. To start, what made you look for a remote role? Crystal - As a final-year student, my university schedule was always changing, which made it impossible to commit to a traditional offline job. A friend sent me the PICKDI job post for a Global Influencer Marketer. I was already a fan of the client, Whipped, so I was immediately interested. It seemed like the perfect way to gain professional experience with the flexibility I needed.

Q: The hiring process at PICKDI is very competitive. What do you think helped your application succeed? Crystal - I believe it was the assignment round. My team lead later told me that while many candidates had great profiles, she could see I put genuine effort into the task. I built my influencer analysis from scratch and treated it like a real project. That authenticity showed I was serious about the role, and it helped me stand out.

Q: What were your first impressions of PICKDI during the hiring process? Crystal - Honestly, I was so impressed. At the time, PICKDI was still new, so I wasn't sure what to expect. But any doubt I had disappeared because of how professional the process was. Every step, from the first email to the final interview, was incredibly fast, clear, and organized. It immediately gave me a sense of trust and reassurance that this was a legitimate and serious company.

Q: Has the job itself lived up to your initial expectations? Crystal - It has completely exceeded my expectations. In the beginning, my main task was finding influencers, which was a bit repetitive. But the role quickly evolved. My team was restructured, and I was given the responsibility of managing paid collaborations directly. Now, I work one-on-one with influencers to create content. Every person is a new and different experience. The work is dynamic, challenging, and so much more interesting. I feel deeply involved in the brand’s success, which is something I never thought I’d get from an entry-level remote role.

Q: What is the work culture like, especially when working with a Korean team? Crystal - It’s been fantastic. My team lead acts as the bridge between us and the client, and communication is always very clear. Everyone on the Korean team speaks English well, so language has never been a barrier. What I’ve learned most is their work ethic. They are incredibly disciplined, punctual, and data-driven. Everything is measured and tracked on organized spreadsheets. It’s a very clear and efficient way to work, and it’s a professional habit I plan to carry with me throughout my career.

Q: Let’s talk about something important to all students: compensation. How do you feel about the service fee? Crystal - For the amount of work and responsibility I have, I feel the service fee is very fair and stable. For a university student, it’s significantly higher and more consistent than the low-paid or unpaid internships that many of my friends have. It allows me to be financially independent while gaining valuable experience

Q: What is the most valuable skill you’ve gained from this experience? Crystal - Professionally, I now have a deep, practical understanding of influencer marketing from start to finish. But the most valuable skill has been learning how to communicate with absolute clarity. Working remotely with an international team teaches you to be precise and professional in every message. That skill is universal and will be essential for any future job I have.

Q: How has the support from the PICKDI team been? Crystal - The support has been amazing and another pleasant surprise. I initially thought PICKDI was just the recruiting agency that hired me. But they are so much more involved. They are always available to help solve problems, whether it's a small question or a bigger issue between our team and the client. Their response time is always incredibly fast. It feels like you have a dedicated support system behind you.
