From AI Skeptic to Animation Innovator at GrowV Edu - Loan's Story
The creative world is changing fast, with new technologies like AI reshaping how we work. How does a creative professional adapt and thrive in this new landscape?
We sat down with Loan Nguyen, a talented AI Video Editor for Pickdi's client, GrowV Edu. She shared her inspiring journey from being an "AI skeptic" to an innovator, and how remote work has provided the freedom and focus to master her craft.
Q: Hi Loan, let's start at the beginning. What led you from a traditional marketing job to seeking remote work?
Loan - Hi there. I have a background in marketing, specializing in video editing and scriptwriting. A while back, I was both working and studying at the same time, so I needed more flexibility. I started looking for online jobs and found a posting from Pickdi.
To be honest, the idea of working remotely for a Korean company felt very unfamiliar. It's not that common for people in Vietnam. But I was curious and wanted to see if I could do it, so I decided to apply.
Q: Applying for a remote job can feel uncertain. What was your experience like with Pickdi's hiring process?
Loan - When I first clicked the application link, the amount of information was a bit overwhelming, and I'm sure many candidates feel the same. However, as I went through the steps, I realized Pickdi's process is very clear and not stressful at all.
Instead of a high-pressure interview, it felt like Pickdi was genuinely trying to understand me and see if I was a good fit for their clients. They act as a trusted bridge or an introducer. This made the whole process feel very comfortable, like being referred by a friend. I didn't feel devastated if one opportunity didn't work out, because I trusted Pickdi to connect me with the right one.
Q: Your title is 'AI Video Editor,' which is fascinating. Can you tell us about your journey with AI?
Loan -This has been the biggest area of growth for me. Initially, like many creatives, I was very resistant to AI. During the early days of the AI boom, we tended to reject it and the products it created.
But after being exposed to it through my work here, my perspective completely changed. I discovered its amazing applications, especially in animation. I’ve worked on a small part of an animation production before, and I know how incredibly expensive and complex it is. AI is changing that. While it still has limits, I believe AI will become a key tool that makes animation accessible to everyone, not just big studios. It's a powerful and exciting shift.
Q: You mentioned one of the challenges of remote work can be loneliness. How have you navigated that?
Loan -That’s true. It can be lonely when it's just you and your laptop all day. But my most memorable experience so far has been about connection. At my previous client company, I worked with another Vietnamese colleague.
We talked back and forth a lot, sharing knowledge and our work experiences. Through that, I gained a new colleague and friend. It made me feel no longer lonely. It showed me that even when working remotely, you can build meaningful professional relationships if you are open to it.
Q: What has the reality of the freelance lifestyle been like for you?
Loan - I originally chose this path because I love freedom. But I quickly learned that "freedom means you have to take care of everything yourself." There are challenging moments, like during the Tet holidays when you don't get the same bonuses as office-based employees, which can feel a bit disheartening.
But the advantages are significant. I am far more focused at home without office distractions. I also save so much time on commuting, which I can now use for my family and myself. And the biggest plus for me is location independence. I love that I can be anywhere I want. I don’t have to live in a big city to have my dream job.
Q: Finally, what does the future look like? Do you see this as a long-term career path?
Loan - I will definitely try my best to continue on this path. Pickdi has been incredibly supportive. Freelancing has a reputation for being unstable, but having a partner like Pickdi makes the profession feel less precarious and more stable. They act as a bridge and genuinely care for the freelancers. It gives you the confidence to build a long-term vision for this new way of working.
Thank you, Loan, for sharing your incredible journey. Your story is a powerful testament to how embracing change, new technology, and a modern work model can lead to a truly fulfilling career.
