"Are Korean Clients... Scary? 😥" A Pickdi Member's Honest Q&A on Remote Work!
Thinking about applying for a remote job? Curious about working with Korean companies?
We know you have questions! "Are they too strict? Is remote work lonely? Is it a stable job?"
Let's ask someone who is actually doing it! Meet Scarlet, a senior K-Beauty designer with 8+ years of experience. She has been working remotely for a Pickdi client, Sungboon Editor, for over a year and just re-signed her contract!
Here is her honest Q&A.
Q: Hi Scarlet! Why did you first decide to apply for a remote job at Pickdi?
Scarlet - Honestly? I was tired of my long commute! 😂 It took me one hour to go to the office and one hour to come back every day. It was so far, and the traffic was terrible.
I was looking for an online job, and I saw Pickdi’s job post. The remote-work style was a perfect fit for my expectation. I applied, and luckily, I got the job!
Q: Okay, let's ask the big question. Everyone says Korean clients are "difficult" and very picky. Is it true?
Scarlet - Yes, it's true they are very meticulous and careful! But I was so surprised. I actually love it!
Here’s why: In Vietnam, feedback is often just "I think this..." But my Korean client gives feedback in a PowerPoint, point-by-point, with clear evidence. It’s "extremely clear."
They put so much effort even into giving me feedback. It shows they respect my work and are not "just playing." I really appreciate this. It makes building trust so much easier when working remotely.
Q: But what about the client's marketing team? Do they just give you orders?
Scarlet - No, I was "WOWed" by them! Their marketing team is extremely professional.
They give me very clear briefs, but they still leave "room for the designer to be creative." This is very rare. I’ve worked with many marketing teams, and this is the best. I really respect them.
Q: What happens if you have a problem? Like you're overloaded with work? Are you all alone?
Scarlet - This is my most memorable story! A few months ago, I was completely overloaded. My Vietnamese colleague and I were so stressed.
So, I "raised" the problem to my Pickdi managers. I couldn't believe how fast they acted.
Pickdi had an urgent meeting with the client right away. And the client also reacted immediately and gave a solution. I was so surprised! My Pickdi managers are "so cool". I felt so warm and knew that they really listen and protect us.
Q: Is the work interesting? Or do you just do the same boring tasks?
Scarlet - It's so interesting! I get to "experience many new things." I don't just do Facebook ads. I work on projects for the Japanese market, I do print designs, designs for trucks, display booths, and landing pages for e-commerce.
The best part is I get "direct" access to the real Korean market and even the Japanese market. I’m learning new design styles all the time, which is very different from just working for the Vietnam market.
Q: After 1+ year, what's next? Is remote work a real, long-term career?
Scarlet - Yes, 100%! I just re-signed my contract!
I am treating this remote work job "very seriously." I want to grow my career in this direction. Remote working is new in Vietnam, and I want to see how far I can go.
Our Final Thought
